178 TROOP WEEKLY TRAINING DIARY – WEEK 8

For the majority of the week we have been practising and perfecting our technique in the gym for next weeks Gym Pass Out.

We also had our Company Commander’s Rounds, which the Troop passed after working late to achieve the standard expected. Back on the drill square we have progressed from the Slow March and are now are looking into more challenging movements.

Throughout Thursday we spent the day with the Mountain Leaders. The aim was to give us a base knowledge of survival skills needed to cope in the field. The day started with a short 1km run into Stallcombe Wood. Throughout the day we received a variety of lectures covering the basics of survival, including contents of a survival tent, building a survival shelter, fire lighting water collection and animal trapping. At the end of what was one of the most interesting days in training so far we moved back to camp.

The rest of the week was spent doing phys and more navigation out on the common. The weather was pretty bad, but after four hours out on Woodbury, we yomped back into camp with time to crack our admin before the weekend, and more drill.
