168 TROOP WEEKLY DIARY
TEST AND ADJUST
Upon returning from Summer Leave a bad case of the ‘Lympstone Blues’ had struck 168 Troop. There was, however, no time to dwell on the comforts of home with the shooting package at Straight Point beginning on Monday morning. The package is designed to improve all aspects of shooting, from longer range to snap shooting. All of which is replicated in the upcoming ACMT, and if the incentive of gaining a marksman badge wasn’t enough the team selected those recruits with the best scores to leave the bivvi area and spend the evenings in the luxury shooting lodge overlooking the ocean.
In between dropping targets at 400m the troop witnessed another type of gun show from our resident body builder that was so loud that his voice box cracked. Eventually, with help from the combat marksmanship team and the training team, the scores began to rise almost as fast as troop morale. With every joke and laugh it became clear that 168 Tp was back to form and ready for the upcoming weeks.
If a week of shooting wasn’t enough, the troop was lucky to receive an impromptu lecture on life after injury in the Royal Marines. This honest account of one man’s journey showed how much the Corps treats each other as family and that the support is unlike anything in the civilian world.
