161 Troop Diary Week 11
Week 11 is the first week of shooting down at the Straight Point firing ranges. The week didn’t start well for 161 Troop. Having returned from a long weekend off after Exercise Hunter’s Moon, the Troop had a lethargic attitude and subsequently this meant we were guaranteed some remedial PT when we arrived.
Once all the introductions and briefings were finished with, we all spent time zeroing our weapons, and making sure our groupings were good. This, for some, took a little bit of time, but overall, everyone’s shooting was fairly good.
Once this was completed we all moved on to the Electronic Target Range (ETR) to improve our shooting at different distances and in different positions, in preparation for our Annual Combat Marksmanship Test (ACMT) which we would be attempting the following week. On the Thursday the wind across the range was so strong that any firing had to be stopped and we carried on practicing on the DCCT Range which is a computer simulation using real weapons.
Once the wind had died down on Friday we continued on the ETR and the Training Team managed to get a few people through their ACMTs early, with a fair few lads achieving a score high enough to be awarded marksman.
