158 Troop Chronicles – Week 12

158 Troop Chronicles – Week 12

Week 12 was 158 Troops second week at StraightPointRanges and a weekend in France.  We began the week with re-sits of the Annual Combat Marksmanship Test.  A special mention must go out to Recruits Crossey, Hawcroft and McLauchlan for achieving the title of Marksman.  As the week continued, Corporal Martinez and the training team took us onto the CQB range where we undertook shoots ranging from 25 to 300m.  We carried out failure and box drills on the move with the entire Troop digging out blind and enjoyed getting the rounds down.

As the week came to a close, there was only one thing on everyone’s minds: France and the Normandy Battle Tour.  The ferry over from Porstmouth to Caen seemed to fly by and we were straight into it on Saturday Morning.  From a personal point of view, our guide Smiler, made the trip thoroughly interesting throughout and made us realise why we joined up in the first place.  It fills you with pride and admirations knowing you are going to be a part of something with such unbelievable history behind it.  Some of the scenes from the tour will stay with us for the rest of our lives.

On a more light hearted note, some of the Troop enjoyed a number of wets on Saturday night in the Chateaux, enjoying some fancy dress!  All in all, this is probably one of the best weeks we have had so far in training, and now for week 13!
