149 Troop Training Diary – Week 26

149 Troop Training Diary – Week 26

Week 26 of Training saw 149 Troop begin the Commando phase of training.  We completed the six mile speed march on Monday morning and were given our cap comforters.  This is a big step forward for us and we can begin to see some light at the end of the tunnel.  We completed a particularly snowy evolution at Foggin Tor with the Mountain Leaders and were introduced to vertical assault techniques.  This was definitely a highlight for the week.

Week 26 is also the beginning of the Final Exercise.  Unfortunately 6 of the Troop were placed into Hunter Company just before beginning the exercise.  We wish them all the best in their recovery.  Exercise Final Thrust started with all of the usual administration before we moved to PooleHarbour to conduct our first amphibious assault.  As we boarded the Offshore Raiding Crafts for a covert infiltration onto an enemy location, everyone felt excited to conduct the sort of Operation that will hopefully one day be our ‘bread and butter’.

The assault went well and we picked up some intelligence that suggested that Enemy Forces had a training camp in Bovington.  Unfortunately we had no transport available to pick us up so we began a twelve mile load carry to move us into the Bovington Training Area.  After some recce’s and a set of Orders we were ready to attack this Enemy Camp and we were able to practice our MUC skills in a 2 Hour compound clearance.
