151 TROOP RECRUIT DIARY – WEEK 22 & 23
Exercise Violent Entry overlapped with week 23 and the previous week. The second half of the exercise consisted of the CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) element of the week on the Monday. After a short yomp, we stayed the night in dug out trenches before a CBRN practical the next day from the instructor. Mock chemical attacks were simulated allowing us to practice the drills we had learnt so far, as well as getting used to operating day to day in CBRN suits and respirators. The same day, a 10k yomp took us to the next stage of the exercise. We stayed under hard cover in the form of an abandoned house and were told to protect the house throughout the night. Various attacks and ‘stand to’ warnings were given over the very sleepless night, with quite a few shots fired. There was an attack at dawn by the enemy and we were split into sections. We were each tasked to flanks, attack or to give fire support onto the enemy from the house. After a massive clear up of the brass from all the blank rounds fired the night before, we left Sennybridge on Wednesday and returned to Lympstone where a night of de-servicing kit was to follow. The next day consisted of returning radios, cleaning weapons and sorting the brass for recycling. For the weekend we were given a well deserved couple of days off.
