149 Troop Training Diary – Week 17

149 Troop Training Diary – Week 17

Week 17 of recruit training revolved around Exercise VIKING BREAK.  Unfortunately this was cut short for 149 Troop, however the Training team always keen to make the most of the time available arranged for us to have a full days training on Woodbury Common!  After yomping up with our daysacks, we spent the day conducting section attacks and break contacts.  This was good for the Troop as we got to practice everything we were taught on Exercise FIRST BASE and prepared us for when we deploy on Exercise SECOND EMPIRE.

The Viking training on Thursday (although a cut down package) was good fun.  We learnt about the capabilities of the Viking vehicle and we spent a period using the re-breathers, which came as a bit of a shock for the lads in the Troop who are not keen on swimming!  The Troop enjoyed learning about the Viking and we were introduced to yet another of the specialisations that we could join after we pass out.  We got most of the weekend off to prepare for Exercise and on Sunday we attended the CTCRM remembrance parade.  Even though we are all fresh to military life, it is clear to us how important it is to remember our fallen comrades from past and recent campaigns.
